Vision Christian Academy is located within the rural community of Raleigh, FL, on the northern outskirts of Williston, off CR 335. Established in 2008 as an alternative to the public school setting, our goal is to provide a school that can best meet the needs of a wide spectrum of students; from those who possess a unique learning style, to those who are advanced high achievers.
When we opened our doors in 2008 only three students were enrolled, that number would grow to eleven by the end of the school year. The curriculum used our first two years employed an individualized, self-instructional approach, which allowed each student to progress at his/her own pace.
As our numbers grew, we realized that the make-up of the students enrolling with us required additional student/teacher interaction, as well as the tools to interrelate with their peers. Consequently, a shift was made to a more traditional classroom setting using teacher-driven instruction, while still incorporating techniques and strategies to better assist each student’s individual need. Our aim is to teach the way a child best learns, understanding that no two students have the same learning styles.
Today, we have grown to an enrollment of over 90 students, with a staff of 16 professionals. Due to the low economic region in which VCA is located, over 60% of our student body qualifies for Step Up for Students, a state income-based scholarship program. In addition, because of our economic status we also receive Title I funding. Another Florida school choice program that we receive funding from is the McKay Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities. Close to 30% of our students receive financial assistance from this program.
At VCA, we offer instruction from kindergarten through 11th grade, with the intent of adding a 12th grade in 2016-17. At the elementary level we strive to provide proficient instruction in reading/writing and math, ensuring that each student has the opportunity to grow to their academic potential. Our philosophy is grounded on the principle that for a child to excel in their secondary education a strong foundation is essential in these two areas.
The direction of our middle school grades is also geared towards the mastery of language arts and math. This is done through a rigorous curriculum combined with intervention strategies through, but not limited to, Title I, the McKay Scholarship, and customized computer-based instruction. Under the guidance of our accreditation agency, Florida Coalition of Christian Private Schools’ Accreditation, our high school curriculum is aligned with the State of Florida’s graduation requirements. Students will earn their degree through classroom instruction as well as online courses.
In closing, we believe that for a child to grow, spiritually, academically and physically they must be provided a safe, secure and nurturing environment. We believe that Vision Christian Academy offers such a place. Our dedicated staff is committed to providing each student the opportunity to identify and get the most out of his/her unique qualities and strengths.
